System Requirements

  • Windows XP through 10 (32-bit or 64-bit). The installation program automatically installs all files and start-up icons appropriate for your computer system. DOS and Windows 98, 95, and 3.1 are no longer supported.
  • CD or DVD drive required for initial installation each year from the disk we send you. However, other options are available upon request if your computer has no CD or DVD drive.
  • Internet access required for on-line updates and e-file. We post updates on the web for quick and easy updating of your software, on-screen manuals, and IRS documents as we and the IRS make changes throughout the tax season and thereafter. e-file output is sent securely over the internet to a 3rd party for subsequent transmission to the IRS.
  • Windows printer required for the printout of IRS-like graphic forms for all 64-bit installations and most 32-bit installations. For 32-bit installations, an HP PCL4-compatible printer with compatible tax fonts and a parallel port connection is also supported.
  • 256 MB minimum free memory and disk space recommended for Standard and Premium Levels, 128 MB for Economy Level. 64-bit installations require an additional 1 GB of free memory.
  • Special requirements for e-file. An additional 128 MB of free memory and disk space are required for e-file. You must also have the Standard or Premium Level software, separately purchased e-file transmission software (below), broadband internet access, and an IRS-issued EFIN.

Unless you request a different method, programs are shipped by U. S. Priority Mail 2-day for $6.95 per program. FedEx 2-day also available for $24.95 per program ($34.95 to Alaska, Hawaii, and Virgin Islands). Pre-release is shipped about 2 weeks earlier than regular release, omitting forms not yet completed and on-screen documents, and gets you the final release on-line.
Paper manuals are shipped by U. S. Priority Mail 2-day for $6.95 ($13.90 for manuals plus binder).
(Initial installation for the edition year must generally be from the disk we ship you, but all subsequent updates for the same year can be downloaded through the internet from our special Check for Updates web page.)
