Requirements

Delivered on CD-ROM. Your initial installation for a tax season must generally be from the CD-ROM we send you. Call for other options if you have no CD or DVD drive in your computer.

Requires Microsoft Windows (95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0, ME, XP, Vista, 7, etc.). Includes Tax Preparer Control Panel for on-line updating and easy access to on-screen and printable IRS and HowardSoft documents. You must have a Windows printer for Windows-graphic printing. (The older laser-graphic printing is still supported but requires an HP PCL4-compatible printer, compatible tax fonts, and a parallel port connection.)

CAUTION: 64-bit Windows may require additional software. See our home page for information on using Tax Preparer with 64-bit Windows 7. (No additional software required for 32-bit versions.) Call for information on using Tax Preparer with 64-bit versions prior to Windows 7.

e-file requirements. To e-file you must have internet access (high-speed recommended), a hard disk with at least 75 MB of free space, and at least 128 KB of free computer memory. You must also have the Standard or Premium Level software for the current filing season, must purchase e-file transmission software (below), and must have an IRS-issued EFIN (see below).

Internet access recommended. With internet access you can get instant, FREE updates to your software and on-screen manuals as we make changes througout the tax season. (You can request any posted update on disk instead for $15 per disk.) And you can get the IRS forms and publications not yet released when the disks were prepared. (Internet access is required if you plan to e-file any returns with Tax Preparer.)

Unless you request a different method, programs are shipped by 2-day express once released for $15.95 per program ($25.95 to Alaska, Hawaii, and Virgin Islands). U. S. Priority Mail is $5.50. Pre-release is shipped about 2 weeks earlier, omitting forms not yet completed and on-screen documents, and gets you the final release fastest via on-line updating.
Paper manuals are shipped by U. S. Priority Mail for $5.50 ($10.95 for manuals plus binder).
(Initial installation for the edition year must be from the disk we ship you, but all subsequent updates for the same year can be downloaded through the internet from our special Check for Updates web page.)
